Hurricane Sandy photo coverage
On assignment for Dominion Energy
Hurricane Sandy coverage: When Hurricane Sandy barrelled up the coast in the fall of 2012, Dominion assigned me to cover their crews in the DC area and in northern New Jersey. I spent three days in NJ photographing Dominion crews working to restore power to several communities. I stayed in emergency disaster housing that was set up and my truck was refilled with fuel every night. Many utilities have mutual assistance agreements – I saw (and photographed) crews from Alabama, Montana, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ohio and others. The smoke jumpers from out west were an interesting bunch – they had these two man chain saws that were about ten feet long – they could clear a road or path in just a few minutes. It was an intense few days, al lthe time I was on the ground, I wished I could get up in the air.
