Great Blue Herons for National Geographic
Great Blue Herons, Patuxent River, Maryland
Hard to believe that this was 41 years ago. First story for NatGeo when I had dreams of being a bird photographer. Spent three months over two seasons freezing in a blind, sixty feet-up in an Elm Tree photographing Great Blue Herons in a heronry along the Patuxent River in Maryland. Shot the story on a Nikon F2 with a Leica/Leitz 400 and 560mm Telyt lenses that were adapted to Nikon mount by Dickran at Pro Photo in DC.
January 26-27 is the NatGeo Story Summmit, a gathering of the clan (virtual for the second year in a row). Loads of wonderful stories will be shared. Always an honor to be invited and to see everyone in person. (which I miss more than I realized).
